TMS Pops the Champagne for the Regular Season Finale - Laffs Preview and Open Thread

Hey Kids! Yours truly is up a little early for no reason except we're old and can't sleep in anymore, even if we're up doing meth 'til 5. Since we're up, we thought we'd give you a special Saturday TMS, then dive right in to the big Saturday Night season finale. So bullet points for what you missed while dreaming of the Final Four, or having nightmares because your bracket was busted 2 weeks ago like mine...

  • BEEP BEEP BEEP. That sound you hear is the Sens backing in to the playoffs even though they lost to the B's. Who smells a 2-7 matchup with them? That really scares me for some reason, even with Alfie and Fish "out for weeks";
  • The rest of the East also sorted itself out a little, with both the aforementioned B's and the Flyers getting the Malcolm next to their name, the latter thanks to their shutout over the Devils;
  • Canes lose, giving the Caps a chance to win the Southeast division if they get a measly point against the Panthers tonight;
  • Things happened out west for sure but as usual we don't care;
  • Here's some standings for you to sort it all out in handy visual form.

Alrighty, let's turn our attention to...

Details, Details - 7 PM start at the Phone Booth. Reading CapsChick's awesome A View from the Cheap Seats the other day, I discovered that they call the Verizon Center in DC the Phone Booth too. I assume the game is on CBC, I'm too meth hungover to check. Habs are tied with the Pens for the East, but the Pens have the tiebreaker, so we need to out-point them between this game tonight and the Pens game tomorrow to win the Conference. Not that we care. Habs are 3-3-1 for the season against the Leafs, including last Saturday's ugliness.

1967 - Of course, turn to PPP and Loser Domi for all your Leafs' pathos.

Hot sexy Habs you dreamt of all year - Kovy (your Molson Cup winner) and TFS(tm)-CTC (Calder Trophy Candidate). Lead us to the promised land kids.

Et le skank - Pleks gone cold since singlehandedly beating the Sabres last Friday. Markov pointless in 4.

1967 - It's the Leafs. Their only good player is out for the season. Done in a Leafs uni? Discuss.

Limping even before Mark Bell could get to them - The list reads: Koivu, Grabs, Franky B, DOOM, and Ryder. Franky B and Grabs have a chance of playing tonight. We'll update with news as the day goes on.

In the VIP Room - Can I just mention how giddy I am that playoffs are starting this week? That is all.

Post-game adult entertinment establishment - For the season finale, the mecca of FHF, Chez Paree, is the only place. Of course, junior lawyers like us can barely afford it, so we're really headed to Downtown.

Big thanks to all the commentors for participating in the Fan Forum yesterday. You guys ruled. Fezworth wins the prize for the best recap. Jeff in Hong Kong wins the prize for the best warped rantings that walk the line between brilliant and stupid. Keep it up tonight, though you'll have to do it in comment form.

Keep your head up tonight boys...here's hoping the Leafs players were at Chez paree until the sun up and are too hung over to put up a fight, and by that I mean dole out cheap shots.

Of the three teams the boys may play in the playoffs it appears that the Sens would be the most ideal. They did not look good against Boston last night and they are surely going to miss Alfie and Fisher, bring em' on!

Rédaction said...

@Ftc: yeah, but its all just bad karma. Christo in Washington, the 8-0 blow againts Boston, us give "une bonne fessée" to the senators twice...

Fuck HF29, you see what you did to me ! I'm a fucking pessimist now !

Go habs, lesafs suck and Go Hockey

Anonymous said...

@montrealiste1, hey man I am a pessimist myself. That is why I love this site...the ftc in my name stands for "Fear the Collapse" after the disgrace that was last year.

But we have to play someone, and from watching the Sens a lot recently it looks like they would be the best match up.

Rédaction said...

@FTC: Have faith brother!

@ HF29: Do they still have free t-shirt promotion at Club Downtown ?

Nice diss on Fagstein btw !

Anonymous said...

@montrealiste1: Getting there, that is why Fear the Collapse has been reduced to an acronym:)

Go Habs!

And I'm not saying that to just fuck with you. Even though it hurts more to say than my broken ribs do.

Rédaction said...

is RAAAAAYYYYYYYCROOOOFT playing tonight ?

67.

Go Habs.

Bullet point comment;

-There is one guy happy that Gromisarek isn't playing tonight, Mother Tucker.
-Habs eying first place in the east.
-I beleive.
-Leafs suck !

Anonymous said...

Well, the Leafers had two jobs to do this week:

1. Beat the sens and knock them out of the playoffs.

2. Beat the habs and keep them from winning the East.

They failed miserably at 1 and will probably do so at 2 so congrats guys and enjoy your two weeks of playoff hockey

ps. Fear The Collapse - It was a clean hit under the current rules. As long as Kovalev doesn't cut across the trolley tracks he'll be fine. Actually, against this marshmallow soft team he's probably safe regardless.

Go Hockey.

greg stewart plays tonight...

who?

HFF33 aka Panger said...

@Bryan: he had like 170PIM and 16 points in Hamilton. I wonder why I guy like him would be in the line up against??

@FTC: I don't there there is much to pick from between Philly, Boston or Ottawa. It's out of our control and unpredictable, which is why it doesn't matter where we finsh in the Conference. We just need to stay healthy tonight. See: Stewart, Gregory.

Huet playing once again in a crucial season-ending game to determine his team's playoff fate. Who would have thunk it?

First time poster! Love this blog, I needed to post a vid of Stewart beating down a Marlie: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z4DxqX8nLLE

Go hockey!

@ppp. I never said it was dirty. But I love the never-ending trash talk. Looks like you can enjoy the 'two weeks' of playoffs with us as it may still be too cold for the links.....

moeman said...

I think Carbo will have fun with this game tonight and the loud and proud crowd will let loser leaf players hear what real fans are all about.

Bryan Driscoll said...

i wonder how long it takes for stewart to drop the gloves with a laffer

evening all. only one prediction - this game is gonna get chippy

@Mtliste - Fagstein really pissed me off

bryan i love that sound

nice ovation for kovy there

Young HF29 said...

i cant believe i'll write this, but raycroft looks sharp

Young HF29 said...

Price is sharp too

Stewart OMFG again a chance! he's supposed to be a fighter?

Anonymous said...

I'm actually hoping that Raycroft does have a good game, because his year has been a nightmare. It would be nice for him to end it well.

I still hope Price outplays him, though.

Go hockey! :)

Anonymous said...

Maybe the adrenaline rush is giving an extra boost to Stewart?

Young HF29 said...

i dont know baroque but maybe we should try him on the PP at this rate. raycroft is killing us!

Anonymous said...

The best part of the game so far was the crowd starting a "VISA" chant because Raycroft made a few saves and nobody believed it was actually him in net. The second-best part has been watching Greg Stewart try to score before the playoffs start and he (likely) gets benched again.

Anonymous said...

Couldn't hurt. It isn't as though the Leafs have scouted him!

I love seeing a kid in his debut getting a lot of playing time. It probably helps to limit the nervousness a bit because they have to concentrate on playing instead of sitting on the bench looking around.

Anonymous said...

Raycroft kept the Leafs in the game.

...And that's the last time we're likely to read that sentence in our lifetimes.

And how about the new guy!?! Go Stewie!!!

Young HF29 said...

this game belongs to Stewie. more ice time!

Anonymous said...

Who the fuck, what the fuck is this Stewart guy?? Goon or offensive dynamo?
Go Stewie!

Unless my maths are way off, Montreal will play Boston in the playoffs if Philly DON'T beat Pittsburgh tomorrow (Ott 6th, Bos 7th, Phi 8th). If they do win, they go up to 6th, Ott 7th & Boston slip to 8th........so the only way we play Ottawa is if Montreal loses in OT tonight (not going to happen with 1:48 left in the third) and Pittsburgh loses in OT to Philly, thus winning the East & bumping the Habs down to second.

I`m tired and a bit drunk. So it`s Boston.

Anonymous said...

Is there a reason for Mccabe? Not quite... Stewie just earned megadoublefudgetriplechocolate brownie points.
GO HOCKEY!
GO HABS!

Anonymous said...

And Stewart finishes it up with a little fight.

Welcome to the NHL, kid. :)

Awesome way to finish off the season for Montreal.

Young HF29 said...

RDS says we play Boston no matter what. hmmm. i need to look at the standings

Anonymous said...

@ HF29: RDS' and my drunken maths are correct. It`s definitely Boston, no matter what happens tomorrow. We had to lose in OT & Pittsburgh had to lose in OT tomorrow to make the Habs face Ottawa. That didn't happen, so it's the Bruins.

I like beer.

Young HF29 said...

you are correct, rips it.

i cant believe 82 games are done. whew in tired

Loser Domi said...

I can't believe the season's over (at least for Leafs, anyway) What do I do with my Tues/Thurs?sat nights? What am I going to write about now? Danmmit, dammit, DAMMIT!

82 games in, what a fantastic regular season. Now to make it 12-0 against the Bruins. History worries me though, they were the top seeds when we played them the last two times.

Weee, I was just on the radio! I called CJAD for a laugh. I'm "John from Ireland". Dear lord, I can ramble. :-/

Anonymous said...

My official comment for the end of the season and the coming playoff prospects is: no comment. Do you think I'm going to try and provoke some kind of karmic tragedy now?! No comment on the Leafs, or the Bruins, or McCabe running back to the dressing room crying like a girl (whoops, maybe just one comment). Let's just relax and think healthy thoughts about Saku.

Thanks for the prize guys. nothing warped today, it's sunday AM and wife is here.

Great page, keep it going.

a little nugget of wisdom i learned from the strippers i groped tonight: life is good.
habs rock. hockey gods still hate the leafs. nothing sweeter than celebrating a season ending victory over those clowns like falling in love with 8 gyrating half naked women.
