The Morning Skate for Wedensday, March 3rd

Bullet points for what you missed while dreaming of a new slider BalckBerry...
  • W00t! The 19-game mini-season begins with a 4-1 win over the Bs and some hope. The Lunchbucket line and the Bread and Butter line (actual nicknames still TBD) picked up the scoring slack, with Métro leading the way with 1G 1A and the first star. Suck it, HF4. More later today;
  • AND the Leafs get crushed, by Carolina no less. What a return to hockey;
  • Rangers pre-Olympic moementum continues, Sens' does not. 4-1 Rangers;
  • Philly rolls over Tampa;
  • This all leaves the Habs in 7th. Won't last;
  • Pens beat the Sabres 3-2, with Miller resting and getting a huge ovation (bigger than Sid) in Pitt;
  • Your token west result has the Kings dominating the Stars, 5-1.
It's trade deadline day! And the Habs are involved for a change already! Buh-bye Dagger. We would appreciate if someone could pronounce the new guy's name for us. We'll keep one eye on Big Fat Bob Mackenzie all day and jump in if anything real happens. In the meantime, we know you'll enjoy some video highlights after a win:

A balckberry slider sounds cool but I don't think I could give up my iPohne.

moeman said...

"BalckBerry..." prescient.

Also, new glossary entry!

BTW, anyone remember those door-to-door Encyclopædia Britannica salesreps?

Young HF29 said...

Apparently im morphing into Panger one typo at a time

@Moe
Those encyclopedia guys must look at the Google guys and fume. Kids today. Don't want to get their feet wet so they find a way to sell without leaving their room and their 7 year ongoing game of Snakes and Ladders. What a bunch of lazy gazillionaires.

Missed all the banter last night. Good stuff. First 2 periods were yawners, but how's about that third! See ya later Dagger.
We need to send the new guy's name to CTV, so they can plug it into their Olympic athletes name pronunciation program. Phoenetics. Can't beat it with a stick.
Agreed. I do NOT want to see Metro traded.

So, just a couple of line combo ideas. The Pleks and Tits' line could be the Cleavage Line or the Lopsided line. The fourth line (or any line with Darche on it) could be the Deathstar Line or the Dark Side Line.

Well, gotta go keep an eye on Eklund.....just kidding. Why the hell would anybody watch anything other than TSN's coverage of trade deadline?

Watching the highlights, Claude Julien looks like a man who's job is rapidly eroding. Good on the lunchbucket and bread and butter lines and a CHicken to go. Goalies who could be on the move today: Price/Halak, Turco, Huet, Theodore to or from either Washington, Philly or Chicago. That's my perception anyways. Personally I wouldn't want Theo or Huet going for the cup. Been there done that!

For those that don't know (and I don't, because I had to look it up), this is Palushaj's analysis according to HockeyFuture.com:

"Palushaj boasts a good all-around game. He can snipe goals with his quick shooting, and his stickhandling and playmaking abilities are also strong. He doesn't mind physical play, willing to dig in the corners to win the puck."

Was fourth in the Blues depth chart

"2006-07: Palushaj played in the USHL with Des Moines. He was one of the Buccaneers' top scorers, with 22 goals and 45 assists. He maintained his strong pace in the league playoffs, registering 11 points in eight games."

"2007-08: This was Palushaj’s rookie season with the University of Michigan (CCHA). He was a CCHA All-Rookie team honorable mention. In the nation, he was second in assists (34) and tied for ninth in assists per game (0.79). Among the nation’s rookies, he was third in points (44) and sixth in pointer per game (1.02). In CCHA play, he led the league with 21 assists. He led U-M with 34 assists and was third on the team with 44 points. He was the first U-M rookie to reach the 40-point mark since T.J. Hensick (46) in the 2003-04 season."

Trade deadline in the air...

Flight attendant to someone: "Mr. Gautier called and asked that you be seated on the exit. He also wanted you to have this commemorative 100 years of the Habs parachute for...um...your...er...great work this season. Have a nice flight and (wipes tear) thank you for flying with us".

Number31 said...

Pelushaj sounds alright. Hard to comment on his AHL numbers considering the Rivermen suck. He goes to the net, that's all you need to know. Also somehow Goat traded a very lost and confused 6th rounder for a raw and promising 2nd rounder, when anyone could have plucked that lost and confused 6th rounder off eventual waivers.

Did anyone catch Giguere's lovely display of stickhandling? There's a 6 million dollar goalie.

@GG11: Pilot announcement: "I'd just like to let you all know I'm in the market for a condo in downtown Montreal. If anybody's selling one in the next day or so, I'd appreciate the heads-up. Hold on, I've got a text. (checks message) Oh, great. Mr.Lapierre, I'll consider nicely decorated houses as well."

GoldenGirl11 said...

@JT
(Lapierre, sitting on the exit wearing barber pole parachute, sweating like Robert Hays in airplane)
"This is your captain again. I just wanted to let you know that it's a glorious 21 degrees in San Jose. We will be arriving a bit later than we had hoped as we need to make a small detour over Calgary. Mr. Lappiere, please refrain from using the facilities until we've landed but don't bother wearing your seatbelt".

iRiRi said...

What I really wanna know is how fast can we get Palushaj (can`t wait to hear Jacques Demers pronounce that one) to Guy Boucher so he can work some of his magic on him?

Also, is it bad that I read these comments from my BB while still in bed and suddenly sprung outta bed out of sheer joy? Yeah, I thought so. Don`t worry, I`ll tell my therapist about it.

Dagger is gone? This trade deadline is already a success.

I hope the kid does well, and I thank him for wearing the jersey with pride and being a decent enough fellow, but holy fucking hell he drove me nuts. He was nothing more than a warm body and couldn't hit the broad side of Tim Thomas. Fucking infuriating that he was out there that long.

boob gainey said...

TSN has a trade deadline iPhone App.

Are you a geeky hockey fan? There's an app for that.

GoldenGirl11 said...

All I remember about Dagger is when he first got called up and he scored like 9 goals in 7 games. His parents were there to see him play and he scored that night. They could've been watching him play atom or midget or pee wee. It was that "hey that's my kid!" face I won't forget. I know the very same thing will happen for me except replace NHL with an accounting firm. I'll park myself in the receptionist area with a drink and some popcorn and scream "MY KID DID THOSE T4S!!!!" to show my support.

GoldenGirl11 said...

@Boob
There's an app that can track a woman's menstrual cycle and even predict whose life she might threaten should they piss her off during a hot flash! (this is an alert sent from your wife's iPhone. For your safety, do not go home tonight. Your children should be fine). Of course there's a hockey geek app!

iRiRi said...

TSN has been yapping about Toronto`s fucking depth chart for the past 10 minutes... I`m done with television coverage.

moeman said...

A must have app.

Wow, did some extra lab work and had this little gift dropped off for me:

1 each of the following;

- Neustadt 10W30 Malty Grain Premium Dark

- Pilsner Urquell

- Creemore Springs Premium Lager

- Golden Pheasant

- Baltika 3

- Rogue Dead Guy Ale

J.T. said...

@GG11: Lapierre: Hey, Pricer, nobody's sitting here in Dagger's seat. You can keep me company on the flight.
Price: Uh, no thanks. That parachute is taking up too much room. I'll just sit waaaay back here next to Marky. (in an undertone) You're safe, right Marky?

Young HF29 said...

"Darren Pang is actually standing here, you just can't see him"

Close it up, TSN. You won't top that.

Young HF29 said...

TSN going to "talk about the Habs" after this break. should be... boring

Young HF29 said...

SHUT UP STEVE SIMMONS YOU FUCKFACE

Anonymous said...

I can stream sportsnet at work, but not TSN. Weird. Try listening to Bill Watters and Gary Roberts talk about the Leafs for an hour. My ears - they bleed. Did the Leafs pick up Carcillo? That's what the twits on Sportsnet are saying.

Young HF29 said...

@anon - i dont see anything about Carcillo

Habsfan10 said...

Oh man, if the Leafs picked up Carcillo, my hatred for that franchise just exploded.

Anonymous said...

So if Derek Morris gets a 4th round pick, does Paul Mara get you a 6th? 8th? 15th?

Boob Gainey said...

The main outcome of the Dags trade is that the H I/O crowd won't be able to use him in their fantasy trades.

You know like "Dags, Mara and Spacek for Duncan Keith".

J.T. said...

@Boob: Aw, be nice to HI/O. Kids have to learn about hockey whining somewhere.

iRiRi said...

Seidenberg to Boston?

ONly Dave Mishkin is a worse announcer than Edwards. It is absolutely impossible for that homer douchebag to call the game as it really is.

habsss said...

The caps announcer are truly the worst.

fezworth said...

Interesting.. The TSN TradeCentre app lets me watch TSN live over 3G. Live TV without wifi? My 6GB data plan isn't looking so crazy now, eh Fido? Muahaha.

Young HF29 said...

@fez - if only there was something worth watching now

Boob Gainey said...

@HF29 Yep - no porn on the iphone.

Neustadt 10W30 is pretty tasty. Now off to the LCBO to grab some so i can tolerate the Leaves talk. Fukkin Tronno talking heads

kevincrumbs said...

If the Habs trade Phat Whale or iTuna, I bet the one we keep gets injured and we have to depend on Curtis Sanford to get us into the playoffs.

GoldenGirl11 said...

Schneider for Zimmerman. Sounds more like J-date than a hockey trade.

Boob Gainey said...

Toskala to the Flames.

Sutter trying to reassemble the 2009-2010 Maple Leafs in Calgary.

If you think we have problems.

Anonymous said...

I thinks metro read the [a href="http://fourhabsfans.blogspot.com/2010/03/barf.html"]blog[/a]. Can you guys do one on the TITS? Tits at the beach.

kevincrumbs said...

@GG11: Hahaha.

Just saw that the Sabres traded Clarke MacArthur to Atlanta for a 3rd AND 4th round pick. Is Waddell just throwing picks at people like some FHFers would throw dollar bills(uh, loonies?) at strippers?

Young HF29 said...

it's after 3. is that it? im fucking asleep here

Young HF29 said...

btw @ moeman - your beer pack is OUTSTANDING. ive always said if i could only drink one beer for the rest of my life, Creemore would be it.

kevincrumbs said...

@HF29: More trades rolling in, as usual. None involving the Habs, which is fine by me.

GoldenGirl11 said...

Schneider/Zimmerman also trade synagogue seats. Makes sense.

Even the TSN guys look bored. They're all on their Balckberrys.

Ok I believe I've added all the nonsense that I can for today.

kevincrumbs said...

@GG11: No jokes about the Semitic Saviour wandering the desert?

GoldenGirl11 said...

Duthie: "the winners might just be the teams that don't do nothing"

I don't not disagree with that statement. I don't however not think that Michael Peca should not be not allowed to speak on tv.

GoldenGirl11 said...

@Kevin
You just made it. Excellent observation. Unfortunately for Phoenix the old Jewish guy was never allowed to enter the Promise land. Lead the people out of the desert and then retired. Permanently.

kevincrumbs said...

From Squid's Twitter:

"Trade deadline! It's a day of mixed emotion sad to see teammates/friends go...also exited for new acquisitions...nervous that your own name could come up...crazy business!"

Probably wishful thinking on his part that we'll let him leave Montreal.

Boob Gainey said...

Leafs have traded 6 of their top 8 scorers.

That top pick is all but guaranteed for the Bruins.

GoldenGirl11 said...

You know it was a slow trade day when the biggest story was Joannie Rochette taking the bronze.
