"Jesus, I hope they win tonight, if only to salvage some pride. And enough of the cheapshot bullshit; you're the Montreal Canadiens. Act like it."
-HF10, in a morning email
I hope 10 will forgive me for using his email without permission, but it so perfectly summed up my feelings going into this game tonight. The Montreal Canadiens are not playing like the Montreal Canadiens. Have some fucking pride. Skate. Work. Follow Métro's example. Play hard, play fair. DON'T FUCKING TAKE STUPID PENALTIES. Well, unless you want to jab your stick in Chara's neck. Then feel free. Some very very quick bullets to set the table:
- 7 PM start at the Phone Booth. Over / under on the sound of the first booing from Habs fans? I've got 7:24;
- I think by now you should know all the B's blogs to read;
- Habs have come back from a 2-0 series deficit five times in their history, most notably in 2004 against the Bruins;
- Bob was totally silent after the morning skate today on his line-up. No mention of goalies, Tits, Daggers, or anything. Maybe hiding the surprise return of Lang?
- Post-game adult entertainment has been suspended pending the Fucking Habs ability to show they can actually win a hockey game.

DO SOMETHING
and there was booing
Is the crowd too disheartened to even boo now?
we've played 2 solid periods of hockey. it's just, uh, uh, we suck
You know who we could have used on the PP all season long? Mark Streit. Just saying....
How are we losing this game?
Haha, the Versus guys are ripping Komi a new asshole. Thank God a non Montreal guy has figured out that Komi is overrated and fucking sucks.
Fuck off Komi, fuck off.
fuck this season. no seriously.
LG77: What's the mood of the crowd like?
PS: I hate PJ Stock.
buck up kids! only down a goal!
/420ing again. damn this holiday
I have never seen less passion, disgusted.
The injuries definitely were the nail in the coffin this year. Even this optimist is pissed and pretty much near given up. I wish I was on their bench I'd be just bitchslapping Plekanec and a few others repeatedly thill their noses were bleeding or tears were formed.
Word verif plummisi which is Italian for plummeted I'm guessing
The Bs play like the complete true shit they are (bonus with re(e)f in ass pocket) and we are still down. eesh.
Ugh. I can smell this shit over the fetid smog enveloping Shanghai right now.
I'm fucking happy I'm still gone for another week and a half, so by the time I get back all traces of the Habs will be gone and I can watch some decent playoff hockey.
Go Canucks Go!
There, I said it. Weber has 2 points? Higgins is scoring goals?
*sigh*
From what i heard on TV. the crowd was the loudest, most energetic I had ever heard it, until the penalty.
The refs are terrible again. There definetly should have been a call on that icing play with Obie. That shits fuckin dangerous.
I just tuned in. Down by one, I have no idea how the game is going so I'll take it as a good thing. Just curious, what's the reasoning for putting Price back in net? Is BG really that stubborn?
BG hittin' the crackpipe.
obviously.
Just saw that Tanguay and Schenider are scratched. Okie dokie. Still trying to stay positive. How much prozac is too much prozac?
fuck you Michael Ryder.
Rips - crowd is both restless... And resigned. Cheers welcoming Habd on ice were halfhearted to start period. Not a good sign. Booing may start...
I'd like to see Kovy or Koivu punch Kostitsyn in the face.
Mr. LG77 sez - thank god the power play is over
I miss Doug Gilmour.
No passion, if I was on the bench I'd bitchslap Plekanec and a few others repeatedly until I saw blood.
Kostitsyn bros will go to the KHL next year.
Oops posted that twice :-s
I'm as fucked as our defense.
Pleks is a fag
My P90X DVDs just came in!
Kostitsyn-Max-Kovy? WHAT THE FUCK, BOB!? If you hadn't been playing BGL on the 1st line for half the series, I'd have think some aliens took over your body.
Also, get your fucking pucks on the net, assholes.
i don't think Pleks has been that bad tonight. both he and Tits have shown signs of life
I can't wait to get back to reading The Sound and the Fury, its so much more uplifting than this shit.
Way to ice the puck, BGL.
Listening to CJAD all I hear is,
"Misses the net"
"Just misses the net"
"Wide of the net"
Not surprised, actually. Just sad.
@HF29: The time is over for encouraging signs. We need production from those fuckers NOW.
my highlight of the centennial was definitely Elmer Lach night in Pointe Claire. and the Roy jersey retirement was cool as well.
the rest was ass.
This is just awful. The Bruins are first to every puck in the Habs offensive zone while all Montreal can do in response is ice the puck.
Bring Back Bowman.
As negative as I have been all night, just one goal, guys. For fuck's sake, just one goal, Habs.
one positive. Weber looks great.
omg pp.
a PP to save the day!
/laughs maniacally
omg
Do my Habs = Old Yeller ?
FUCK THIS STUPID FUCKING GAYYER THAN MARC SAVARD PP FUCK
God, the PP sucks.
fuck it hard in the ass
YES! Bring on the boos!
WE CAN'T FUCKING PASS
Why is Kostopoulos on the PP!?
What a fucking turd of a PP.
66 minutes left in Bob Gainey's tenure as GM & coach.
shittiest centennial ever.
5 MINUTES LEFT TO SAVE THE SEASON WAKE THE FUCK UP
goodbye Saku.
@DP, see you in 2109.
we won't the Cup before then.
Pull da goalie Babs.
Wow. I've never heard booing at a playoff game before. Even in the 90s.
if Brisebois is re-signed next season I will seriously consider sitting this year out.
and yes, i know he isn't playing tonight.
SKATE FOR FUCKS SAKE
over.
We suck, we suck, we suck, we suck
running out of time
So I guess most of these guys who's contracts run out this year really don't care about this team anymore. Just going through the motions.
NAH NAH NAH, NAH NAH NAH, HEY HEY HEY GOODBYE (centennial)
see you next season everyone
FUCK. THIS. TEAM. FUCK THIS TEAM.
SHUT THE FUCK UP, JACK EDWARDS.
I hope they boo the fuck out of them off the ice. In a perfect world no fans would show up for the next game, just like the players. I would love to see that.
Arrogant Bs, as always, go fuck yourselves.
Last season was such a fucking tease. Fuck this team to hell.
Good bye Pleks, Komi, Breezer, Kostitsyns. Don't let the fucking door hit you on the way out.
Season's story, play sixty minutes suckers.
Now the Carbo chants come... we should've saved last season's riot for tonight.
fuck you Carbo, one last time.
I never thought I'd say this, but Carbo was 10x the coach Gainey is. Doesn't really matter that much when you've got a bunch of gutless pussies on your bench. But still.
Eh... let's not forget how much Carbo sucked.
So, who's our next coach? Will Bob even be here after this year? Who owns the team? Why do I have a bad feeling that this is going to lead to another "rebuilding". God, sometimes I hate being a Habs fan, especially a post 93 one that missed all the glory and got stuck with this fucking shit.
Wow, the look on Bob's face is beyond sad, almost unbearable. He will be ripped immeasurably but them are the breaks.
Still the slightest glimmer left to beat these fuckers, as they are the true definition of fuckers, the Bruins, fuckers forever.
Bob, do us a favour, bench #46 for game 4. Call up Max Pac.
Damn.
:(
what a shambolic fucking heartless or injury plegued season
Well, at least we didn't trade for Jokinen. Sheesh, what a dumb penalty after the whistle. Bob should be GM but please give up the coaching.
FUCK YOU CARBO
oooof.
And Bob,
lose the hard on for Price.
I'm disappointed, I was hoping for a good solid fight to the end but the habs kind of just...quit. That was a damn boring last 5 minutes. If you take out the crowd noise from the first period, the Habs aren't even playing up to preseason level. That really sucks, if I'm going to fail an exam for watching a hockey game instead of studying, I at least want to see the opposing team remember to lace up.
They dominated half the game, we dominated half the game.
Difference? Goaltending.
Proof Gainey is Irish - his stubbornness.
WE HAVE A GOALIE ON THE BENCH THAT CAN STEAL GAMES FOR US. WHY THE EVERLOVING FUCK IS HE RIDING THE PINE????
Fuck.
One more Jaro post? Please?
Whatup guys? Good game, huh?
If they play Halak I still think montreal could avoid the sweep
Reportedly, the players had quit on Carbo, so Bob got rid of Carbo. What's their fucking excuse now?
The team is broken. Fuck them, bunch of crybabies. I stayed up until 3:00 AM on a work night for this?
I want to rip them, I really do... but I think that was the best they could do.
Oh, and just to kill your hopes of salvaging anything - Pacioretty is injured, so he's not being called up.
Ain't this Centennial fucking grand?
Oh, and for the last time, FUCKING FIRE MELANSON! If Price comes out the extra foot he has that Thornton shot. But noooo, fucking Melanson decides that because Price is over 6 feet tall, he wants him on his fucking goal line. BEING TALL DOES NOT TRANSLATE TO COVERING FROM POST TO POST, LEARN SOME FUCKING DIMENSIONS! HEIGHT, WIDTH, DEPTH YOU FUCKER! Gah! Between Bob's illogical faith in him and Rollie's retarded goalie molding, I'm surprised Price doesn't curl up in a little ball and weep at the back of his net.
Weber and O'Byrne were very solid. That's a good sign, right?
We're giving O'Byrne too much credit. When you usually suck so much and then for one game play somewhat decently, it doesn't mean you're any good.
Yeah, fuck Melanson too. With all the pictures floating around of Habs players, you're telling me that no one has dirt on Melanson so that we can blackmail him into "retiring"?
@Cornelius: Salt on the wound. Great. Thanks.
They just didn't had any form of energy left in the 3rd frame. Koivu getting outskated for the empty netter was just unfair.
*sigh*.
anyone catch Babs on the post game? looked like he was gonna cry.
SSHF - Word to Rollie. Asshat.
DP - you would be about to cry too if you were about to get fired in this economy.
@Olivier
I wasn't the one whining about the love fest.
That looked like a painful game for a habs fan. And judging by the comments here, it was.
Well, fuck me sideways and call me Jenny!
2 things I hate to admit:
1) Bob's gotta go. I kept believing up until tonight - I was always such a huge fan. But...buh-bye!
2) I have to agree with PJ Stock on Bob's errors. Not replacing Lang at the deadline, staying with Price and keeping the BGL experiment going. Steeeerike THREE and you're outta here!
See Koivu speaking with Smelliot Fried-man? He tried to hard to be positive, but it was obvious the season is over.
At this point I just want the season to end Wednesday in Montreal, so the fans can boo the fuckers (the Habs) right out of the building and all the way back to Muldovia or wherever the hell they're all from!
should Babs really be fired? I mean, he's made some glaring mistakes recently but overall he's been pretty good. He pretty much had to re-build the team from scratch in what has been an uphill battle all along. is it Babs' fault Sundin wouldn't sign here? Is it his fault Lang, Schneider and Tanguay got hurt? He could still save himself by hiring the right fucking guy for once this offseason. Just last season everyone thought he was a fucking genius.
@ DP
And he's probably putting all the blame on himself. Whether that's deserved or not, I dunno (he did build this team), but he's gotta be feeling like he's embarrassed our glorious history. If nothing else, it shows that at least he recognizes the importance of the CH.
On that note, I saw Jean Béliveau signing autographs at McGill metro, but I had an exam so I didn't have time to stop. I wonder what he must think of the state of the Habs.
There's always next year and should Bob leave we/us Habs fans will always love the man and his on-ice accomplishments and devotion to our/his team. Unlike say, cam neely, a career zero in accomplishments but loved by the broons fan foe God knows why.
The beauty of us crazy fucked up Habs fans is we will believe, until the last fucking second that our team is capable of pulling it off (how sexy is that!).
I say meh, win at least one, say Wednesday and if, eventually the series is lost in game 5, in Boston, a loser hockey town if there ever was one, that the kids wearing the CH, those that remain, feel the shame and the hurt of Habs humiliation, at the hands of our truest rival, the fucking Boston Bruins, winners of 8 of 32 playoff series (and I think 1 Stanley Cup, or more, who fucking cares). Remember the stink of their piss yellow jersey as they elbowed you in the face and the stenCH of your own jersey that should've been in 15 more games.
Go Habs!
@south
you're right about Bob putting this on himself. you can tell all along he's been on a mission and wanting to bring the Cup back to Montreal. I really hope it doesn't end this way. At the start of the year I didn't really think this was the year, I mean the franchise goalie is 21 years old, and with all those defensive prospects coming up I thought we were a few years away. I didn't think it would end this badly though. Seriously, it must be difficult to build exclusively through the draft considering free agents don't want to come here.
And Beliveau is the man. Not sure what he would think of this mess but I'm sure he's disappointed.
No one on this fucking team is good enough to even breathe the same air Beliveau does.
I'm torn about Bob... I think he's had some rotten luck, up until the very end with Markov and Schneider. I really hope he realises that we need a veteran (or Jaro) instead of Price. As much as I ripped on him tonight, Carey will be good, he's just not good right now.
I'm really curious about our next coach.
I just hope they pick the best guy available. no bullshit language rules please.
I hope Saku comes back. I hope we find a good 1st line centre and I wouldn't cry if Pleks never played for us again. Same with the Tits bros.
@ DP
Word on the coaching. I think the past 10 years have shown more than adequately that the whole "French-Canadian ex-Hab with no real coaching experience" gimmick just doesn't work.
I hope the next coach does what Gainey and Carbs didn't have the balls to do - don't name a #1 goalie, just ride whoever is hot, the way Chicago did this year. Ideally it'd work out to a 50/50 split, which would get both goalies ready for the playoffs, prevent injuries, and would also let us evaluate who's the better goalie.
@DP: The Habs aren't l'Assemblee Nationale. It's not politics, it's not "rules", it's marketing. They can find some good candidate, I'm not worried about that.
I hope Bob stays. All in all, he does a good job. His great failing is his coaching abilities; if this year teaches him that he must let his coach do his job and that if he want to kick the guy out he must have a replacement ready (by which I mean: not you Bob, you suck balls at coaching), we are all set.
I write it, but I just don't believe it; Bob's bleeding and the sharks are circling.
its not about marketing, its all about appeasing the assholes in the media. The fans just want to see a winning team and its just not very bright to limit the talent pool so much.
I mean seriously,
Lemaire (he's not coming)
Hartley(screamer)
Crawford (ugh)
Martin (more boring than Lemaire, never did much in the playoffs in OTT)
Therrien (made this mistake already)
Denis Savard (LOL)
Mario Tremblay (I'd cry if this fucking twat came back)
@DP, you forget Patrick Roy.
I think Bon should stay. I think he learned some lessons this year, although I'm not sure he understands that Price just ain't ready yet.
We can blame injuries sure. But did anyone actually expect Lang to be the Habs leading scorer in Feb? He was supposed to be supplimentary, not the be all and end all. Did anyone expect Schneider to transform the team overnight like he did with the PP? I say we got lucky that those two did what they did to begin with.
Yeah, Tanguay going down was a bummer but in my opinion he was under producing already. Obviously Markov's injury was terrible.
The major difference from last year to this year was the PP. A goal here or there would have propelled the Habs to home-ice easily. Look at this series, they're oh-for whatever on the PP. A PP goal tonight in the 2nd could have won it for them.
Then you have the Tits and Pleks completely invisible the whole year. And of course the Habs were virtually injury-free last season.
That's all to say this version of the team isn't that different from last season's except with more injuries and no PP QB. What's the diff from going out in the 1st round this year or 2nd round last year? Major changes need to be made and hopefully this will be the kick in the ass that gets them done.
Of course I mean BOB not BON. Subliminal 'Bon Voyages'? Peut-etre.
@DP:"its not about marketing, its all about appeasing the assholes in the media."
It seems to me that the so-called "media" are mostly willingly playing the part of extended marketing apparatus to the habs; brings them eyeballs, doesn't cost too much to set up and produce (that's the "asshole" part), etc... Everybody wins, really. But you gotta feed the monster.
Then again, I'm arguing with some dude on an internet comment threads because my team lost tonight, so I *may* not be the most perceptive and/or bright guy around...
And, really, no offense meant, but you shoudn't rule out "Denis Savard (LOL)" too quickly. Not sure he is any good at coaching, but he *was* on that '93 team...
My God, it sure feels like a wake around here, doesn't it?
on the plus side, Caprica looks like a worthy followup to BSG. I'm just sad we have to wait until 2010 for the series to start.
Gilbert Dionne was on the 93 team as well. lets hire him.
And the media are assholes. case in point, "the darkest day in habs history."
have fun golfing with les habs this winter, you Canadiens loving douchebags!!!!!!! GO BRUINS!!!!!!
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! (But seriously, better luck next year guys. And lay off Price fer chrissakes...he's gonna be a good goalie for a long time...)
